S.W.’s Verdict
The franchise that invented self-aware slashers is now a self-aware slasher franchise that forgot why self-awareness was interesting. Campbell and Cox are doing their best, and Cox in particular brings genuine menace to Gale, but the script keeps gesturing at themes — toxic nostalgia, AI, legacy sequels — without committing to any of them. The kills are competent. The mystery is guessable. The meta-commentary has been done better by this exact franchise four times already. It exists. Seven films deep, that's about all you can say.
