S.W.’s Verdict
Two hitmen hiding in a medieval tourist town after a job goes wrong. McDonagh writes dialogue like he's being charged per wasted word — every line either advances character, builds tension, or is genuinely funny, often all three simultaneously. Farrell gives the performance of his career as a man who hates Bruges with the passion most people reserve for moral injustice. Gleeson is the calm center of a story that gets progressively less calm. The tonal shifts between comedy and genuine tragedy are seamless.
