Kurosawa invented a storytelling structure that every crime show, courtroom drama, and unreliable narrator film has been borrowing from for seventy-five years. Four versions of one event, none fully trustworthy. The entertainment comes from watching certainty dissolve. You rewatch it when you need to remember that truth is a negotiation, not a fact.
