S.W.’s Verdict
William Friedkin treated demonic possession like a medical procedural and that is exactly why it works. The film earns its terror through patience — forty minutes of doctors and priests before anything supernatural happens. When it arrives, the violation feels real because the normalcy felt real first. The practical effects hold up better than most modern CGI. Not a casual rewatch.
