S.W.’s Verdict
Twelve men in a room arguing about reasonable doubt for ninety-six minutes. That's it. That's the whole movie. Lumet makes a single jury room feel like a pressure cooker by slowly tightening the camera angles as the deliberation intensifies. Fonda plays the only holdout with a quiet stubbornness that makes you want to strangle him and thank him simultaneously. Every actor in the room does exactly one thing perfectly. The dialogue is so tight it could be a stage play — because it was — but Lumet's camera makes it cinema.
