Ava DuVernay draws a straight line from the Thirteenth Amendment to mass incarceration and makes the connection feel inevitable rather than conspiratorial. The information density is high but the editing keeps it moving. It is the kind of documentary that changes how you read a newspaper. Not a pleasure rewatch — an education rewatch.
