S.W.’s Verdict
Scott delivers spectacle because Scott always delivers spectacle. The Colosseum sequences are appropriately large. Mescal is physically present but emotionally muted compared to Crowe's raw fury in the original. Washington chews scenery with surgical precision and is the only reason to stay alert. The story is a thinner echo wrapped in better CG and worse motivation. You'll watch it once and nod. That's the whole transaction.
