S.W.’s Verdict
Nearly a century old and still more visually ambitious than most modern blockbusters. Fritz Lang built an entire dystopian city out of miniatures, mirrors, and controlled madness. The class allegory is blunt — workers below, elites above, robot woman in the middle — but the imagery earns every bit of its reputation. The pacing drags in the middle act because silent film structure didn't have the luxury of modern editing rhythms. You watch it to understand where science fiction came from. You don't rewatch it because you already got the message.
