S.W.’s Verdict
Eggers treats every frame like a painting commissioned by someone who hates sunlight. Skarsgård's Orlok is more presence than performance — you feel him in the room before you see him. Depp carries the physical horror of possession with genuine commitment. The film takes its time in a way that either builds dread or tests patience depending on your tolerance for atmosphere-as-narrative. Dafoe is Dafoe, which at this point is its own genre. This is horror that respects the source material enough to actually be unsettling rather than just referential.
