S.W.’s Verdict
Dustin Hoffman plays a man being consumed by his own future and Anne Bancroft plays the person helping him avoid it. The first half is tighter than the second, but the Simon and Garfunkel soundtrack papers over any structural wobble. The final shot is still one of the most debated in American cinema.
