S.W.’s Verdict
Eggers recreates 1630s New England so thoroughly that the dialogue requires subtitles in your own language. The horror is slow, deliberate, and built on the understanding that if you genuinely believed the devil was real and lived in the woods, every snapped twig would be terrifying. Anya Taylor-Joy carries the film on her face. The goat steals every scene it is in. The ending is either liberation or damnation depending on where you stand, and the film does not tell you which.
