S.W.’s Verdict
An astronaut wakes up alone on a spaceship with no memory and two dead crewmates. This should be grim. Instead it's warm, funny, and somehow optimistic about a dying sun. Gosling does the thing where he's charming without trying, which is the only version of Gosling that works at this scale. Lord and Miller understood that the book's real engine isn't the science — it's the friendship. The alien co-pilot relationship earns more genuine emotion than most dramas manage with actual humans. Structurally tight for a film juggling two timelines and an extinction-level premise.
