S.W.’s Verdict
A Norwegian family drama about an aging director trying to stage a comeback while his daughters navigate the wreckage of his ego. Sounds like every European festival film. It isn't. Trier and Vogt's script finds the exact pressure points where artistic ambition becomes narcissism, and Reinsve plays her role with the kind of quiet devastation that makes you forget you're watching acting. Skarsgård is terrifying as charm that curdles. Won the Oscar for International Feature. Deserved it.
