S.W.’s Verdict
Chalamet does the impossible and makes you forget you're watching Chalamet for about seventy percent of the runtime. The other thirty percent, you remember. The Newport Folk Festival sequence is electric. The relationship drama is less electric. Mangold knows how to build a biopic that moves, even if it follows the familiar beats: talent discovered, relationships strained, artistic rebellion, crowd goes wild. It's a well-constructed music film that stops just short of being a great one.
